Hong Kong General Employment Scheme

Program Introduction

Expatriates who possess the special skills, knowledge or experience required in Hong Kong but are not local graduates can apply for work in Hong Kong under the General Employment Scheme.

Application Prerequisite

Age 18 years or older with no criminal record
Bachelor’s degree; In exceptional circumstances, good technical qualifications, proven professional competence and/or documented experience and achievements may also be accepted
If you have been employed before applying, the work you are engaged in must be related to your academic qualifications or work experience, and you cannot easily find a local person to do so
Remuneration and benefits (including income, housing, medical and other incidental benefits) must be substantially the same as those of the Local at the time
Chinese citizens holding Chinese passports who reside overseas must have overseas permanent resident status or have resided overseas for not less than 1 year before applying

Applicable Personnel

An expatriate who already has permanent resident or national status overseas

(Except nationals of Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, Nepal and Vietnam)

Family Members

Spouses or their same-sex civil partnerships concluded under the laws in force of the place (the status is legally and officially recognized by the local authorities)
Unmarried adopted children under the age of 18

Application Procedure

Consulting, signing contracts; Pay consultant fees and review documents
Submit application documents
Obtain the application file number and wait for approval
Obtain a letter of approval in principle
Interview in Hong Kong and obtain a 2-year residence visa
Renewal at maturity (3 years + 3 years) until the issuance of Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
